‘A Voice for Rebekah’ is my first book. Initially, I wrote
it to challenge myself – it was something I wanted to do but self-doubt held me
back for so long. I had spent so many years in the business world putting
together reports, minutes and correspondence, which do not come with ‘flowery
bits’.
On leaving the workforce, it took a little while to ease
myself into writing fiction, albeit fiction based on fact. But for the
encouragement from my husband, Paul, I may never have started my writing
journey.
As you may know, the challenge of becoming a successful
writer these days is beset with pitfalls. The field is huge, competition
fierce. For those who lift themselves up, dust themselves off after each
rejection and persist with their endeavours, I take my hat off to you. For me,
writing was a personal challenge but I knew knock backs would not discourage me
as my expectations of ever having a book published by an actual publisher
seemed remote.
I finished my book and sent it off to several publishers of
whom all but one – Austin Macauley Publisher – rejected it.
If you have a book in you – most say they have – start it,
finish it, polish it and submit it. Don’t let self-doubt hold you back.
Thank you for visiting.
